Rise High, a free weekly STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program serving 6th through 12th grade students from Schenectady area schools, is celebrating a milestone this fall: its largest enrollment ever and a record graduating class of 18 motivated seniors. Founded in 2017 by Mark and Terri Little along with Omayra Padilla De Jesus, Rise High continues to grow, supporting students as they advance through the program together, building lasting connections and skills.
Rise High remains committed to breaking down barriers and opening doors for Schenectady’s youth, helping them realize their full potential in STEM fields and beyond. The organization is dedicated to preparing students for college and future careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. Throughout their time in the program, students experience college campuses firsthand, meet faculty, and participate in learning opportunities at area colleges and universities. These experiences demystify higher education and inspire students to pursue their academic goals. Additionally, the RPI Engineering Ambassadors work with students at every age to give them exposure to careers in engineering, allowing them to engage with college students who can be role models for them.
Starting in 11th grade, Rise High intensifies its support for college-bound students and their families. Experts in college admissions and dedicated mentors guide students through every step of the application process, including essays and financial aid. This personalized approach helps students identify their interests and potential fields of study, ensuring they are well-prepared for the transition to college. Professionals in a vast array of STEM fields also work with children to investigate training programs for fields such as nursing, coding, and more.

They have created a close-knit community, ready to lean on one another when needed and prepared to take their next steps into the future.”
